Twitterationships

j0440912Yes, I’m back and I’ve been playing ‘catch-up’ ever since. The vacation was much needed and much enjoyed – and for once, I didn’t say “UGH…back to work.” I came back invigorated, excited and ready to jump into things. The one thing I didn’t do on this vacation is look at Twitter even once! It was difficult (kind of like giving up smoking) but it was worth it. Why? Because I now appreciate its importance in my job even more!

What has Twitter done for me (and my clients) this week?

  • I have built new relationships that would have taken a very long time to find.
  • I have learned lots of new information from others that I follow, and have been able to pass this information along to my clients.
  • I have landed a few media opportunities for my clients that would have otherwise passed me by!

Twitter has become a staple in my daily routine and I’m now grateful for it. In fact it is also becoming the centerpiece of my relationships with the media that aren’t using it or don’t “get it”. It is helping me build up stronger relationships with media that want to do it, but just don’t know how. In the past week, I’ve become a Twitterationship counselor to two Managing Editors! It all happened so innocently. I just asked for their Twitter name and they both said they weren’t Twittering yet, which opened up a floodgate of questions and answers, lots of emails and some very thankful people. Who’d of thunk it?

Okay, all evangelism aside – if you think you’re a laggard, don’t…lots of people aren’t on Twitter yet. But it’s definitely worth exploring in your business on a number fronts. With Twitter, you get to ask questions, inform, learn, connect. What’s wrong with that? Nothing I say!
